Stoke City new-boy Saido Berahino has compared his team-mate Giannelli Imbula to Yaya Touré in a recent interview with YouTube phenomenon, Copa90.
Berahino was part of the series ‘Fifa and Chill,’ where presenters David Vujanic and Poet sit with a professional footballer, and play the virtual game FIFA 17 and chat to the stars for a period of around 10-15 minutes.
Saido was sent a question in by Twitter user, @Sadiq_A, where he was asked, “who is the best player at Stoke?”
The 24-year-old was prompted to say Xherdan Shaqiri, but Berahino had an alternative opinion.
“You know the funniest thing that I didn’t know? Imbula is a baller; I didn’t think he was that good.
“He’s a proper baller – he reminds me of Yaya Touré back in his good days where he could get the ball and just push it and run with it.”
Giannelli Imbula has been subject of links away from Stoke in recent weeks, after an apparent bust-up with Mark Hughes, and a summer exit looks destined for Stoke City’s club record signing.
The Frenchman enjoyed a wonderful start to life at the then-named Britannia Stadium, and even as late-on as October of last year, earned very high praise from his team-mate Jonathan Walters after Imbula’s stunning performance away at Vicarage Road, where the Irishman claimed Imbula was “the best player I have played with.”
Unfortunately for Giannelli, those performances haven’t come as often as he’d have liked, but there is without doubt huge talent hidden inside, and Mark Hughes will face a huge battle now to convince Imbula that his future does lie with the Staffordshire-based club.
