Tuesday 30th August 2016 – one day before Deadline Day!
14:30 – According to The Sentinel, it could be a case of 3 in and 3 out for Stoke City in the next 29 hours, with Wollscheid, Joselu and Haugaard (loan) expected to depart from the bet365 Stadium.
15:00 – Stoke City are believed to have made an enquiry for Bony on-loan from Manchester City. [The Telegraph]
15:45 – Ever reliable John Percy (@JPercyTelegraph) has confirmed that we have made a late bid for Wilfried Bony.
15:45 – Percy has also said that there is some interest in USA defender Geoff Cameron.
16:15 – Mamadou Sakho has rejected the chance to join Stoke because he felt that he should be at a higher club. [BBC Sport]
16:30 – It’s reported that Holland defender Bruno Martins Indi is close to joining Stoke on loan from FC Porto [@ed_aarons]
Bruno Martins Indi – Fact File
The 24-year-old centre-back currently plays for FC Porto, after making a switch from Feyenoord for €7.7million. The Dutchman found his fame at the 2014 World Cup, where the Netherlands finished third. Whether that be for his facial expressions, or his defensive skills, we’ll leave that up to you!
The defender stands at 6ft, 1in, and has scored 7 goals over his career. His physicality is probably is greatest trait, as well as his defensive ability. A strong defender is maybe what we need, as we look to improve our defensive woes!
17:00 – To further the news about defender Bruno Martins Indi, @DeanJonesBR says the move is looking likely, again confirming that it is set to be a loan deal, rather than a permanent one.
17:25 – Big news, as Jim White says we have reopened talks with Saido Berahino. The deal seemed all but off as the striker posted pictures of himself on holiday, but apparently their is life in the deal still!
17:30 – Twitters very own @AgentDave_ has confirmed that Stoke are closing in on a loan deal for Martins Indi, after being rejected by Liverpool’s Sakho.
17:45 – Dutch outlet ‘De Telegraaf‘ are reporting that negotiations are taking place between the club and Martins Indi (rough translation). This deal looks like it’s very much on!
18:00 – Not much new to report, other than a freshen up with the images on the blog. Martins Indi move looking very positive, with more outlets now reporting the move. Would you be happy with this signing? Tell us your thoughts on Twitter and Facebook.
18:15 – Not sure on the credibility of the source (and translation), but according to Bild VfL Wolfsburg, the German club are looking at Philipp Wollscheid as reinforcement in defence.
This would mean that it would be one in, one out regarding defenders. As Wollscheid didn’t make the squad against Everton, do you think the move was inevitable? Would Martins Indi be a suitable replacement, especially just on loan?
18:20 – Reports suggesting that Mamadou Sakho could be on his way to Sunderland, despite rejecting offers from Stoke and West Brom. This is a strange one, especially after he said he wants to stay and earn his place at Liverpool. The Frenchman has been told he has to leave on loan to save his Liverpool career, but will he choose to accept another bid from Stoke?
18:40 – One man who nobody quite knows where will be at the end of the window is Joselu. Earlier it was reported that Stoke would not accept anything less than €10m, with Deportivo interested. Personally, I believe he still has a future at Stoke, as he should be starting over the likes of Crouch, especially with his youth and technical ability.
18:40 – Big development regarding the Wollscheid saga, as @SkySportNewsHD, the German Sky Sports team, have confirmed that Wolfsburg are in for the defender. The translation isn’t the best, but it seems that Wolly is on his way out.
19:00 – There are developments in the Berahino deal, as Stoke Loud and Proud, one of the most reliable sources when it comes to Stoke related transfers, have said that the club have submitted a fresh bid for the striker. Go check them out at @StokeLoudProud for more details on the bid!
The Englishman has been a long term target, and if this turns out to be true then we’ll finally have our man! The 23-year-old has had a rough time at his current club West Brom in recent past, as he went on Twitter to vent his frustrations after the club blocked a move away, and a move away has been long overdue. With such obvious talent, but a reported poor attitude, it will be interesting to see the impact he’d have, if he was to join.
19:50 – Transfer news has slowed down for the moment, but the Bruno Martins Indi is said to be going ahead, with the defender flying over for a medical tomorrow.
20:00 – According to @TheFLZone, striker Joselu has turned down a move to Championship side Newcastle. Says a lot about his ambition!
20:20 – In some unrelated Stoke news, long term target from last season Yehven Konoplyanka has signed for German side Schalke on loan. Since the sage we had with him before signing for Sevilla, his career didn’t go as planned, as although he bagged himself a few goals, he didn’t get the consistent starts that he would have liked. However, after the brilliant season that Marko Arnautovic had, who plays in the same position as Kono, you could say it was for the best that the Ukrainian didn’t sign.
20:40 – It’s not transfer news, but Stoke’s U23s are currently 1-0 down at half time in the Checkatrade Trophy against Bradford. Adam and Muniesa are the only senior players to make the team, with the likes of N’Goy, Shenton and Verlinden in the starting XI.
21:00 – Another target seems to have gone elsewhere as Leverkusen’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos is set to join RB Leipzig on loan. The Greek defender was linked with a move to the Potteries a few weeks ago, but a deal never seemed likely. Now, after a few weeks out of our limelight, it seems he has found a new club.
21:05 – A strange one this, but it seems Stoke have showed interest in signing Enner Valencia from West Ham. However, Swansea are leading in the race for the striker, with talks already in place. In my opinion, I can’t see this as much of an improvement, especially off current form. But if he can recover the form that he showed when he first joined The Hammers, then this may not be as bad a signing as first thought.
21:30 – Another strange one, as reports in Spain have linked us to Valencia’s Diego Alves. The Brazilian was a starter for the Spanish side, but hasn’t made an appearance this season so far. It’s unsure whether he’d be coming to be a starter or not, but at the age on 31, and with Jack Butland in the side, this would be very suitable experienced back-up.
22:20 – As the day come to a close, the transfer news has slowed down. One interesting piece of information that has been reported however, is that Stoke want £8million for defender Phillip Wollscheid, according to @Marcespley. German side Wolfsburg are reported to be interested in the defender, and considering how big of a club they are, I can’t imagine they’d find it hard to pay that fee, especially with wonderkid Julian Draxler rumoured to be leaving for big money.
It will be sad to see Wolly leave, as although he wasn’t everyones favourite defender, he did put in some solid defensive performances in his time with the club, and you could say he has been the most consistent of our centre-backs, even if he isn’t the best of the bunch. However, with Martins Indi coming in, the timing seems right, and hopefully if he does leave, he is successful at his new side.
22:30 – In other transfer related news, former target Axel Witsel is set to move to Italian giants Juventus alongside Juan Cuadrado. Witsel was rumoured with a move around the time of the Euros, but the deal never happened unfortunately. Instead, we signed Joe Allen, which off the back of a brilliant Euros, seems like a great alternative.
22:45 – Before we leave, it has just been reported by The Mirror that West Brom are ready to finally sell Saido Berahino, to fund a £32m move for Watford’s Odion Ighalo. £32m is a crazy amount for a team like West Brom to be spending (TV money coming in handy), but they for sure will want a good sum for Berahino because of it. If true, then it’ll finally look like we will get our guy, but a deal like this all depends on Watford, and if they are willing to sell one of their best players for such a high price.
22:55 – More details into the Martins Indi deal, as @FCPortoGlobal state that the defender will be loaned to Stoke, for a fee of €1.5-2m. We will also have the option to sign him after the loan for €10m (£8.5m), which sounds like a very reasonable price, considering the fees being thrown around nowadays. Finally we could have found an answer to our defensive problems!
