Mark Hughes has claimed he was ‘not surprised’ Xherdan Shaqiri’s world-class ability shone through for Stoke City at the KCOM Stadium as Stoke City made it a century of wins in the Premier League.
Having come into the game off the back of their first win of the season, Stoke were always confident of a victory today and dominated throughout. Spectacular goals from Xherdan Shaqiri either side of half-time ensured Stoke City moved out of the bottom three.
Reflecting on the victory, Hughes said: “Back to back victories is always big in the Premier League, and it’s difficult to do.
“I was quietly confident today that was a good opportunity for us in terms of getting three points.”
The result moves Stoke City out of the bottom three, and Hughes was full of praise for his players today.
“Two fantastic goals from Shaq which has won the game for us, but overall I thought the whole team understood what was required.
“It was an absolutely fantastic goal from him (Shaqiri) he’s got that ability clearly.
“The second goal I was less surprised with to be perfectly honest. I’ve seen him doing that in training every day, and he was due another in the Premier League.”
Hughes’ men host Swansea in 10 days, and he will be hoping for more of the same as his push to get Stoke City into the top half of the table continues.
