After a dismal few days for us Potters, it was somewhat nice to be linked with yet another Barcelona player. Having spent all summer chasing Saido Berahino, it was refreshing to see today that were Stoke linked with a new face. Earlier this afternoon, different national outlets reported that we are ahead of Spurs in the race to sign highly rated forward, Munir El Haddadi for a reported £15m.
The media believe that we are ahead of Spurs because of the fact that we are willing to allow Barca a buy-back clause, should Munir exceed in the Potteries.
Munir would be a fantastic addition to a very threadbare squad at the moment, and his ability to play in any forward role might force Mark Hughes to dip into the budget, given Xherdan Shaqiri’s current injury record.
The 20 year old is said to be frustrated by a lack of playing time at Barca, which is less than surprising considering he is competiting with Lionel Messi for a place in the Barcelona first team.
Over the course of his career in the first team, Munir has made a total of 33 appearances, grabbing 4 goals, and 4 assists, spread over 3 competitions in 3 seasons.
Given his UEFA Champions League experience, it’s highly unlikely that Munir will fancy Stoke-on-Trent, but he only has to look at the careers of Marko Arnautovic, and ex-Barca player, Bojan Krkic to see that Stoke City might be the perfect chance for him to flourish.
I’m not getting my hopes up just yet, but it’d be a huge statement to the footballing world should Munir reject Spurs and Everton for us.
In the meantime, here’s Munir doing his thing for Barca last season, enjoy!
