An established Premier League goalkeeper, Shay Given is a goalkeeper of some pedigree. Not only is he in the FIFA century club of players who have earned over 100 caps for his country, but he has played against some of the world’s best footballers consistently for his entire career.

A man famed for his success with Newcastle United, it was actually at Sunderland where Given made his name first. Whilst at the Black Cats, he earned 12 clean sheets in 17 games and was one of Kenny Dalglish’s first signings as Newcastle United manager.

462 appearances for the North East club, Given made the move to Manchester City under Mark Hughes for three seasons before ending up at Aston Villa where he made a resurgence in form thanks to the clubs’ involvement in the FA Cup, Given appearing in the final.

At Stoke he will be offering competition for places in the absence of Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen.
