It’s a perfect 10 for one player, and several 9.5’s littered throughout in what was a fantastic display at Vicarage Road.
But how did they rate?…
Lee Grant [GK] – 7
Hard to really give Grant a rating today as he had so little to do all afternoon, but he was ever-present when Stoke needed him to catch and punch balls.
Mamé Biram Diouf [RWB] – 9.5
Very close to pushing Giannelli and Martins Indi for MOTM for me this afternoon. Diouf was clearly given a role by Hughes to help Glen Johnson out at all costs this afternoon as the defender clearly wasn’t 100% fit, and boy did he help him. Diouf’s selfless display was one of the most impressive I’ve seen so far this season in a red and white shirt, and Mark Hughes may feel his 3/5 at the back system could really use a player like Diouf on the right hand side.
Glen Johnson [CB] 7.5
Glen was absolutely solid for Stoke today at the right-side of a three man defence for Hughes, who played it perfectly this afternoon. Johnson wasn’t up to full fitness, however was helped out by the tireless Mamé Biram Diouf.
Bruno Martins Indi [CB] – 9.5
Didn’t put a single foot wrong all afternoon for Stoke City. His ability to play out from the back is absolutely magnificent, and I, like thousands of Stoke fans out there will be praying he’s signed permanently come January.
Marc Muniesa [CB] – 9
Fantastic first start of the season for the Spaniard, who on this performance, clearly has a massive part to play in our future. Composed on the ball at crucial times, and defended like his life depended on it – magnificent.
Erik Pieters [LWB] 7.5
Offered terrific, and much-needed support for Marko Arnautovic on the left, and gelled perfectly with Marc Muniesa in the left side of defence.
Giannelli Imbula [RDM] – 10
Having not featured since September 10th, many questioned how Giannelli would fare today paired with Charlie Adam in the heart of the Stoke midfield. Those questions were answered emphatically, as Giannelli showed why Stoke paid £18.5m with a quite remarkable display. Giannelli had 56 touches, made 39 passes with 95% accuracy and won 71% of his duels which saw him earn Sky Sports’ Man of the Match award.
Charlie Adam [LDM] – 9
Charlie’s performance today was a huge middle finger to Scotland manager Gordan Strachan. Having been criticised for his display last week against Bournemouth, Adam bounced back with splendid performance in midfield, and a huge hand in the winner for Stoke City on the day.
Xherdan Shaqiri [RAM] – 8.5
Vintage Shaqiri-like performance from the Alpine Messi today who provided a sumptuous cross for the Stoke goal in the first-half. Shaqiri was also vital for Stoke in the closing stages, as he drove at the already-carded Miguel Britos, forcing the Uruguayan to clatter him behind to reduce Watford to 10-men.
Marko Arnautovic [LAM] – 7.5
Tremendous outlet on the left hand side, Arnautovic’s ability to constantly roam free today meant he was always an option throughout. Very unlucky not to have set up a second for Stoke when Walters was unable to reach his delightful cross.
Jonathan Walters [ST] – 8.5
Fantastic display from Walters all afternoon who in typical fashion, never stopped running all game. Walters was first to the ball throughout the match, and has now given Mark Hughes a possible selection headache for Stoke City next Saturday.
