We’ve been made to wait all summer for a new striker, but it seems we have finally got our man. Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony has joined Stoke on a season long loan!
The Ivorian has a notoriously good goalscoring record wherever he has been, but failed to live up to the high expectations set at Manchester City, and in reality faced tough competition in Sergio Aguero.
Before joining the Manchester side, his goalscoring record was quite remarkable. Starting his career at Sparta Prague, the 27-year-old finished his last season with club scoring 17 in 24, which sparked a move to Dutch side Vitesse. It was here where he truly made a name for himself, as in the 2012/13 season, Bony managed an incredible 37 goals in 36 games.
This led to an inevitable move to the Premier League, with Swansea City the ones able to secure his signature. His freak goalscoring didn’t stop here however, as he bagged himself 25 goals in his debut season in the Premier League. The following season saw him make a January switch to Manchester City, where limited game time saw him manage just 10 goals in his City career.
A move away was obviously needed for the striker, and with an obvious need for a goalscorer, Stoke is just the right fit. We as fans have been saying for a while now that we need a 20+ goal a season striker, and that is quite literally what we have got.
His strength, heading ability and his obvious talent for finding the back of the net will be incredibly useful as the season progresses. One stumbling block there is however, is that he will most likely be taking part in the African Cup of Nations, which takes place around January. This would mean he’d miss a months action, which would mean back-up would be needed just in case.
Nevertheless, this is a top signing for us, and put this with Martins Indi, Joe Allen and Ramadan Sobhi, whilst at the same time keeping hold of Marko Arnautovic, it is hard to argue that this has been a successful transfer window for us!
